About Sigrid’s research

I am a literary and cultural historian with a particularly strong interest in ancient Greek and Roman literature and its influence on later cultures around the world. Research questions that attract my interest tend to have interdisciplinary ramifications. At the moment I am running a project examining representations of sexual assault and cultures of silence in the classical tradition. The purpose is to contribute to a better understanding of why victims of sexual violence often avoid making their experiences known, and find that few listen once they do. I am also active in two collaborative projects: the graduate school at Uppsala University’s Center for Women’s Mental Health, Womher, and the ERC-project Mothernet, which examines contemporary stories and experiences of motherhood in Europe.

In brief

Born: 1981
Interests: Music, film and literature.
Other: I now live in Uppsala, originally from Malmö and have lived in several European cities since childhood: Paris, Madrid, Stockholm, London, Rome, Pisa and Geneva.

As a member of the Young Academy Sweden, I want to work for increased collaboration between younger researchers in Sweden and contribute to making our work visible. In particular, I want to develop and contribute to dialogue and cooperation across subject boundaries and explore all the possible places of the humanities in those conversations. Finally, I want to work for better conditions for younger and future colleagues in Swedish literary studies.
